Red Watch

599,000 Students are injured under the influence of alcohol every year.

The Red Watch program is designed to involve students in the alcohol resistance process. Studies show that when students get involved in the health and safety of other students, there are more tangible result than if the message about alcohol safety came from someone else.

This program consists of two parts:
A) Alcohol Emergency Bystander Training
B) Free CPR/AED Certification and card

After completing both parts of training you will receive your own red watch and a CPR/AED certification card. Also, if you are interested, you will have the opportunity to become a Red WatchRed Watch Band facilitator yourself!

Following this introduction to First Aid and CPR, Red Watch participants learn about the specific causes and consequences of alcohol poisoning and related emergencies. They’re taught how to effectively cope with the situation and when to alert proper authorities.

It’s important to realize that UI EMS SIO is a dry organization and does not promote drinking, but it’s important for our community to be aware, prepared, and cognisant of the alcohol issues we face and be ready to take on alcohol related emergencies when they do arise.

Red Watch participants will receive a Red Watch wristband upon completion of the course to signify to the public that they are knowledgeable and responsible in the event of an alcohol related emergency.

Check the calendar for the Red Watch certification dates this semseter, and register for one if you would like to attend.
