UIEMS wishes you a safe and fun filled summer!
Hello,
UIEMS has even more events planned for this semester. The details for some of the major upcoming events are listed below. If you have interest in any of the events register for them on the UIEMS website. By registering it allows us to contact you with details for the events as they come up.
CCERT
Bruce McAvoy, the UI Fire Safety Coordinator, and UIEMS Liason to the Department of Public Safety, hosted the first Campus Community Emergency Response Team (C-CERT) training at the DPS last Saturday and we had eight or nine UIEMS members in attendance.· We really were impressed by the setup of the course and its curriculum. Activities include practicing basic fires suppression and practicing skills needed in a disaster scenario. The schedule for the remaining classes is attached to this email so you can check out the upcoming activities. If you are interested in attending the class you can show up for any of the particular units but if you want to receive the certification you must attend all of the sections. If you missed the first class last Saturday but want to attend all of the remaining sections, Bruce is willing to schedule a makeup session to get you up to speed. The meetings will be held in the training room at the DPS. If you didn’t attend the first CCERT class but plan on attending the remaining classes please register for “CCERT” on the UIEMS website.
Free BLS CPR Training February 27th 1 pm Iowa Room, IMU
We are offering free BLS level CPR training for all UIEMS members on Sunday February 27th at 1pm in Iowa Room in the IMU. This is the most advanced level of CPR training offered by the American Heart Association and is prerequisite for all EMT courses. If you know anyone who is not a UIEMS member who is interested in taking the course or becoming and EMT, let them know about this opportunity. If they just pay the $35 UIEMS registration fee they will be able to take our BLS CPR course without any additional fees. This is a great opportunity because this course usually costs at least $40 if taken elsewhere. If you are planning on attending this CPR training please register for the event on the UIEMS website. To register for the event; login to the web site, hover over the “Calendar” tab at the top of the page then click on “Event Registration” in the drop down menu. In the list of events you will see “BLS CPR Training.”
JECC Tour March 8th 7pm
Our March meeting will be a tour of the Joint Emergency Communication Center (JECC) which is responsible for dispatching all emergency responders in Johnson County as well as disaster management in the area. This facility just went online in the summer of 2010 and is state of the art. Transportation will be provided from campus for those who need it. To register for the event; login to the web site, hover over the “Calendar” tab at the top of the page then click on “Event Registration” in the drop down menu. In the list of events you will see “JECC Tour.”
